There are many organizations which assist patients with air transportation to treatment center's across the nation. Each organization has its own selection criteria and requires verification of the illness and the need for transportation. Most organizations allow a family member or caregiver to accompany the patient and some can provide medical assistance in flight. The organizations listed below serve patients across the country.

Southwest Airlines assists with transportation for medical purposes. Decisions are made on a case-by-case basis. A letter of request, as well as a letter from the patient's doctor, is required.

Continental Care Force

Continental Care Force provides tickets on Continental Airlines for critical medical need, regardless of age or disease. The individual must be financially needy. Tickets are limited to the patient and possibly one family member, if an individual is needed to accompany the patient.

Corporate Angel Network (CAN) is a nonprofit corporation designed to give cancer patients in need of transportation the opportunity to use empty seats on corporate aircrafts. A family member may accompany the patient if required or appropriate, and there are no financial requirements or limits on the number of trips.

SkyWish, a collaboration between United Way of America (UWA) and Delta Airlines, uses frequent flyer miles donated by Delta frequent flyers to transport patients with life-threatening illnesses to medical treatment. Applications can be obtained through your local United Way office or completed over the telephone by calling the above number.
Eligibility requirements for tickets:
· Medical treatment must be for a life-threatening condition
· Doctor verification is required
· Maximum number of tickets per case is two (patient and a companion)
· Limited to once every 6 months per patient

AirLifeLine is a national nonprofit charitable organization of private pilots flying patients who cannot afford transportation to medical facilities for diagnosis and treatment. There is no charge for patients who qualify and pilots can fly short or long trips, with distances as short as 50 or 100 miles. A support person may accompany the patient, however, AirLifeLine does not provide medical equipment or medical personnel. AirLifeLine and the American Cancer Society formed a partnership with the goal of making people across the United States aware of this transportation service.

NPATH maintains all known data on over 40 organizations providing long and short distance air medical transportation and can provide referrals to appropriate charitable and patient discount commercial services. NPATH is the administrating organization for the Air Care Alliance, a network of private volunteer pilots that assist patients with short distance air travel.

American Airlines provides transportation for medical purposes for children 18 years of age and younger. This one time service is based on financial needs and includes transportation for the child and one or both parents.
